Holi is the occasion to spend some time with family and has some flavorsome delicacies like gujia, dhuska, malpua and delicious holi special barfis. But, in the middle of all this enjoyment and celebration, we forget to take care of our skin.

Your skin needs the best care before and after the Holi celebrations; from cleansing the face with a suitable cleansing lotion to nourishing with an ultra-hydrating moisturizer. So, here are some of the pre and post holi skin care tips for you. These tips will surely help you prevent all the nasty skin concerns that you might face while playing with colors this Holi.

How Do Holi Colors Affect Your Skin?

To better understand how to protect your skin from damage during Holi, knowing how the Holi colors can affect your skin is necessary. Most of these colors consist of chemicals that can cause dryness and irritation to your skin. In addition, all these chemicals absorb the moisture from your skin and thus, making it flaky, dry, and prone to acne.

Therefore, you should try using natural colors that do not contain chemicals. However, making sure that you’re only exposed to natural colors is not possible when celebrating Holi in public. So, always prepare your skin well before stepping out of your house. Some of the significant side effects of Holi colors are:

  1. Holi colors can lead to several skin allergies and rashes.
  2. Exposure to the silver color can be a cause of skin cancer.
  3. The different chemicals found in colors are harsh for your skin and cause dryness, acne, and dermatitis.
  4. Colors that often contain silica, glass, and other substances should not be used. Instead, You should prefer organic colors.
  5. The excessive use of colors can lead to irreversible damage to the skin.

Pre Holi Skin Care Tips

The artificial Holi colors can have a profound impact on your healthy skin. Hence, it becomes essential to make sure that you prepare yourself to avoid the side effects of such colors. Here are some easy tips to prevent damage to your skin while rejoicing in the spirit of the festival of colors.

1. Using Ice Cubes

Using ice cubes can work wonders to close your pores before stepping out to play Holi. You can rub some ice cubes on your face after cleaning it. Do this for at least 15 minutes to ensure that the harmful and chemical colors don't penetrate your skin and cause outbreaks.

2. Sunscreen Is A Must

People generally prefer to play Holi outdoors. However, constant exposure to the sun, color, and water can take away moisture from your skin. As a result, it can leave you behind with dry and tanned skin. Further, restoring your skin's natural color becomes complicated once it gets tanned. Therefore, you can avoid such a problem by applying a good amount of natural sunscreen before stepping out to play Holi.

3. Keep Yourself Hydrated

One common mistake we commit while celebrating Holi is forgetting about staying hydrated. Today, when checking your health, it is equally important to drink enough water to produce saliva. Moreover, this keeps you as well as your skin hydrated. In addition, try to intake foods rich in vitamin C and collagen to provide you with antioxidants to fight against the free radicals generated by the chemical colors.

4. Oil Your Body Correctly

Do you know there's a myth that you can only oil your hair? Well, oiling can also be done on the skin. You should oil your skin with organic oils to restore your skin's natural texture. Further, some organic oils have the inherent properties to treat acne and other skin allergies miraculously.

You can try making a mixture of 1 teaspoon Organic Coconut oil and Organic Almond Oil. Apply this mixture all over your skin. This creates a thick barrier between your skin and all the harmful colors. Hence, in this way, it will be easier for you to keep your skin moisturized and also take off the colors easily after celebrating.

6. Use Nourishing Lip Balm For Your Lips

The most sensitive area of your skin is your lips. So, do not forget to cover it up with a layer of nourishing natural lip balm before stepping out. Natural lip balms introduce moisture to your lips and prevent the harmful colors from setting in the cracks of your lips.
